Hi! My name’s Katie, the person behind Student Skint. I’m 21 years old and a self-confessed money maker, money saver and bargain hunter!
Learn more about me by reading my 20 random facts about me Q&A.
I’ll let you into a little secret…I’m not actually a student, nor am I skint.
In fact, I stopped mainstream education in 2016 when I finished sixth form college and I turned down offers from my top choice universities to do an apprenticeship instead – find out more about that here.
Why is my blog called ‘Student Skint’?
I’ve been employed since the age of 17 when I had two part-time jobs alongside going to college full-time. Even then, I would save as much as I could whilst on minimum wage. Frugality and minimising costs has always been something I pride myself on and I hope that you’ll join me in challenging yourself to spend less and save more.
Now, I have a full-time office job as a Content & Communications Executive and earn a good salary for my age but I love the challenge of making extra money, saving as much money as possible (so I can afford holidays and a few too many meals out) and getting freebies. This is what I want to share with you!
My main message:
Remember, there is no shame in spending less.
Being able to manage your money is a skill, no matter how much or how little you earn. Personally, I feel a huge sense of achievement when I’ve got something for free or discounted knowing that there are people out there who’ve paid full price for it (haha – the joke is actually on them).
